The Knicks, however, could not hold the double digit first half deficit the Spurs had built, surrendering the momentum in a third quarter where San Antonio outscored New York 41 to 26 through the first two periods. Game 4 returns to Madison Square Garden on Wednesday.

One Point Heartbreak. Knicks Survive in Game 4 to Even the NBA Finals
It came down to a single basket. The New York Knicks edged the San Antonio Spurs 107 to 106 in Game 4 of the NBA Finals on Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden, leveling the series at two games apiece in one of the closest contests of the postseason.
The Spurs built a commanding lead of 76 to 48 at the midway point of the third quarter, a 29 point cushion that appeared to seal the game. New York answered with an extraordinary 59 to 30 run over the final quarter and a half, completing one of the largest comebacks in NBA Finals history. Jalen Brunson and OG Anunoby carried the Knicks’ charge. Brunson finished with 30 points, seven assists, and three steals, while Anunoby erupted for 33 points on seven of nine shooting from three point range. Karl Anthony Towns contributed 13 points and 10 rebounds to anchor New York’s interior game.
Victor Wembanyama paced San Antonio with another double-double, 24 points and 13 rebounds, while Dylan Harper matched his Game 3 output with 21 points on efficient shooting. De’Aaron Fox struggled from the field, converting just three of 13 attempts, and Stephon Castle’s seven points were not enough to hold the lead. The series shifts back to San Antonio for Game 5 on Saturday.

New York Delivers. Knicks Win NBA Championship on Spurs’ Home Floor
The New York Knicks are NBA champions. In a gritty, hard-fought game on Saturday night in San Antonio, New York defeated the Spurs 94 to 90 in Game 5 to claim the franchise’s first NBA title in more than five decades, closing out the Finals four games to one.
Jalen Brunson was the series’ defining force and carried that role straight through the final buzzer. The Knicks’ guard scored 45 points in the championship clincher, his highest output of the postseason, connecting on 14 of 27 field goal attempts and converting 13 of 15 from the free-throw line. Josh Hart delivered a double-double alongside him: 13 points and 11 rebounds, the blue collar performance the Knicks have come to rely on in their biggest moments. Mikal Bridges added 14 points, and OG Anunoby contributed 11 in support.
San Antonio led for much of the first half, holding a 23 to 13 edge after the opening quarter and still ahead by three entering the fourth. Dylan Harper led the Spurs’ effort with 25 points, their most efficient scorer on the night. Victor Wembanyama recorded 19 points, 14 rebounds, and five blocks in what was a signature performance under impossible pressure, but the Knicks’ fourth quarter execution proved decisive. New York outscored San Antonio 29 to 18 in the final period to close the door.
The championship ends a remarkable Spurs playoff run, a team that knocked out the Oklahoma City Thunder in seven games and reached the Finals in what many considered a rebuilding season. For New York, the wait is finally over.
In a city that bleeds silver and black, there is no shame in what this team accomplished. The San Antonio Spurs arrived at the NBA Finals as the youngest roster in the post-season, defied every prediction, and pushed the league’s best to the final minutes of a fifth game. Victor Wembanyama, Dylan Harper, Stephon Castle, these are not names the basketball world is done hearing. The Spurs did not win the title, but they won something just as valuable: the rest of the league now knows they are coming.
