On May 3, a tragic accident occurred at Ma’nao Rock scenic area in Huaying City, Guang’an, Sichuan Province, during a popular waterfall swing attraction.

According to available details, the woman was secured in the harness and began the swing. She repeatedly shouted “not tied tight” several times in clear distress. Staff did not re-check or adjust the equipment despite her protests and proceeded to launch the swing. The rope reportedly snapped prematurely, causing her to enter a free fall trajectory before impacting the rocky cliff wall below. She sustained severe injuries from the fall. On site staff quickly responded, rescuing her from the area and providing immediate assistance. Despite efforts to save her, she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.

The waterfall swing is a high adrenaline activity where participants are harnessed and swung out over a deep gorge with steep cliffs, lush vegetation, and waterfall views. It relies on secure rope and harness systems for safety during the high-speed arc above the valley.

Local authorities have classified this as a production safety responsibility accident. An investigation team was quickly formed to examine the exact cause, including equipment condition, fastening procedures, and staff response to the victim’s warnings. The park has been closed for rectification, and aftermath handling with the family is underway.

Eyewitness footage from the scenic area shows the steep cliff environment, viewing platforms, and the swing structure extending over the drop. Images from the aftermath show emergency responders attending to the scene and transporting the victim on a stretcher.

Authorities are expected to investigate the cause of the rope failure, including equipment integrity, maintenance procedures, and operational safety protocols.

The case remains under official review as further details are awaited.
