Testimony Begins In Trial Tied To 2020 Murder For Hire Killing Of Dallas Rapper Mo3

Testimony got underway this week in the Dallas County trial of Kewon Dontrell White, the man accused of fatally shooting Dallas rapper Mo3 in a broad daylight, murder for hire killing nearly five years ago on Interstate 35E. The case has drawn renewed public attention in North Texas after prosecutors previously alleged the shooting was orchestrated by fellow Dallas rapper Yella Beezy, whose legal name is Markies Conway.

What Happened The Day Mo3 Was Killed?

Mo3, whose real name was Melvin Noble, was fatally shot on Nov. 11, 2020, while traveling northbound on I-35E near the Dallas Zoo. According to police accounts, a suspect exited a dark colored vehicle armed with a gun and approached Noble’s car in broad daylight. Noble got out and ran south along the freeway, and the gunman chased him on foot before opening fire, striking him multiple times. A bystander in a nearby vehicle was also struck but survived. Noble was taken to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries. He was 28 years old and best known for his 2018 single “Errybody.”

How Was Kewon White Connected To The Shooting?

Investigators identified White as the alleged shooter within weeks of the killing, and he was taken into custody in Dallas’ Oak Cliff neighborhood in December 2020 after allegedly fleeing officers first on a dirt bike and then on foot. A firearm was recovered from him at the time of his arrest. White was later indicted on a murder charge in Noble’s death and separately pleaded guilty to a federal charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm, for which he was sentenced to nearly nine years in federal prison. A second man, Devin Maurice Brown, was also indicted on a murder charge in connection with the case.

What Role Did Yella Beezy Allegedly Play?

A Dallas County grand jury later indicted Conway, accusing him of orchestrating the killing by hiring White to carry out the shooting in exchange for payment. Prosecutors have pointed to financial records showing a large cash withdrawal by Conway in the days surrounding the killing as part of their case. Conway was arrested, held on a multimillion dollar bond that was later reduced, and released under strict conditions including house arrest and an ankle monitor while his case proceeded separately through the courts.

What Happens Next In The Case?

With testimony now underway in White’s trial, prosecutors are expected to present evidence tying him directly to the shooting, while the broader murder-for-hire case against Conway continues to move through the Dallas County court system on a separate track. The proceedings mark one of the most closely watched criminal cases in North Texas’ hip-hop community in recent years, given Mo3 and Yella Beezy’s prominence in the Dallas rap scene at the time of the killing.
