A 21 year old woman identified as Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas died on the morning of June 13, 2026, during a rope jump activity at the Trilha da Ponte do Esqueleto in Limeira, in the interior of São Paulo state, Brazil.
According to statements given to the Military Police by a witness, employees of the organizing companies failed to attach the safety rope before the jump. The activity took place from a platform approximately 40 meters above the ground. Video footage recorded at the scene shows workers carrying the young woman to the platform and launching her forward. The safety rope is visible on the ground below, unattached. Shortly after the fall, bystanders can be heard shouting about the missing rope.
The victim, who was from Jandira, had posted on her Instagram earlier that morning showing the location, identification bracelets for the activity, and expressing anticipation for the jump. The rope jump was offered for R$ 180.
Emergency services from the Fire Department and SAMU responded, but the death was confirmed at the scene.
Two men fled into the surrounding vegetation after the incident. They were located later with assistance from the Águia police helicopter. In total, six people connected to the event have been detained.
The case is under investigation by the 2nd Police District in Limeira, with the Civil Police examining the circumstances and responsibilities. The companies involved have been identified as Entre Cordas and Ih Voei.
The Ponte do Esqueleto is an old structure that has been used for extreme sports activities. Authorities in Limeira have stated that the federal government is responsible for inspection and maintenance of the site and have indicated they will take legal action regarding alleged omissions.
The investigation remains ongoing.
